Your Water Hardness Depends on Your Address
According to the City of Scottsdale’s published figures, water south of Indian School Road runs 22 to 25 grains per gallon. Between Indian School and Chaparral it runs 20 to 22. North of Chaparral it drops to 16 to 18.
Anything above roughly 10 grains per gallon is classified as very hard, so all of Scottsdale is well past that line. But a home in the south of the city is dealing with substantially more mineral load than one up north, and that difference shows up in how fast scale accumulates on the bottom of a tank, how hard the burner works, and how many years you get out of the unit.
